![]() The next screen is where you provide your username and password for Webmail, this time without the next screen is the final one, after you have pressed "Finish" the mail client will attempt to download your email. Normally your ISP will provide you with a mail server that you can use to send emails from, this can be used in conjunction with the aston Webmail, again I will explain later. Email uses a pair of servers, which I will explain later, the outgoing mail server is required if you wish to be able to send emails from your mail client, however you cannot use aston's Webmail server to send mail. The next step is to type in your full aston email address including the next screen is the server information, Webmail uses IMAP so select this from the drop down menu. The first thing to do is add your display name, this is the name that appears in the mail client. If you cancelled the wizard or it didn't show you can add one by going to Tools > Accounts > Add > Email Account. The first time you start the mail client you will be prompted to setup a new account. I recommend using Windows Live Mail if you are using Windows as it's a lot newer than Outlook Express and Windows Mail but offers a familiar interface and features. The following procedure is for Windows Mail in Vista but it is pretty much the same for Outlook Express (Windows XP) and Windows Live Mail (XP, Vista). Some of the information here is buried deep in the Aston website and the other stuff is from memory that people have told me throughout my time at Aston. It gets quite technical in places and some of the information may only be useful to CS students or similar degrees. Well this is my first post here, I'm a final year CS student, this thread is packed full of useful information about the computer systems on campus at Aston that I hope people will find useful. ![]()
